The Unbanned Documentary

Back then, in 1984, it was unheard of for a black man (Michael Jordan) to be the face of a huge company such as Nike. This not only caused huge waves in the media, but the entire country. Shortly there after, Jordan's very first shoe was released. 

Fun Fact: this shoe was banned by the NBA. Because of the color scheme (black and red or bred), David Stern (commissioner of the NBA at the time) had the shoe banned from all NBA games, as all shoes had to be mostly white.

As a result, this is the only shoe that was created during Jordan's playing days as a Chicago Bull, but was never worn by him. With Jordan bringing a more flashy style of play and his urban appeal, kids naturally already wanted the sneaker. But you know the saying right? People want what they can’t have. And that was the start of an empire, we know today as Jordan Brand.

Sean Wotherspoon's Air Max 97/1

I love sneakers. I love how they tell stories. I love how different designs can attract someone’s eye. I love how one modification of a sneaker can instantly make me fall in love with a sneaker and I love how one modification of a sneaker can instantly make me hate it (i.e. Aqua 8s).

However, there is very few shoes that people universally like and go crazy for examples, the Banned Jordan 1s and Yeezy 350 Boost. Seeing this phenomenon happen a classic silhouette such as the Air Max 97s, is dope.

Meet Sean Wotherspoon.

“Who is Sean Wotherspoon?” you ask. Sean Wotherspoon is a co-owner of the vintage store, Round Two, also co-owner of a Youtube channel of the same name and a HUGE sneakerhead. More importantly, he is the winner of Nike’s RevolutionAIR program.

Now, there was 11 more other winners, but as far as I know, his design of the shoe overall, in addition to how the shoe is built is the biggest standout by far.
