TRAVEL | Fleeing The Country, Can't Come Back Where Are You Headed?

image.jpg

A couple of weeks ago I asked you all a question that I was so wrapped around. Not in a bad way just one of those hmm, questions. It was bound to come up because I finally sat down to go through my book, Book of Questions. I was super drawn to this questions and figured hey, let's start a question. I already know my answer but check out a few from my fellow Wanderers:

image.jpg

Everyone here seems to want to JUST BE. I agree.

image.jpg

Some just want a great escape.

image.jpg

Europe and Asia are also getting massive play.

image.jpg

Water is the answer.

So now that you see some of the most illmatic answers, here's mine...

Capetown, South Africa. I've never been but I see beaches and it's always hot and I would like the challenge of starting over and doing something I love and being with a beautiful culture

Question Two On Way. Where would you go?

LIFE | Don't Count Yourself Out So Quick

I kept going back and forth with the title of this post because I needed to have a clear vision of what I am saying. It almost serves as a letter to myself, mostly of not under estimating yourself, counting yourself out and believing the masses don't see your magic.

Biggs. Co-founder of Rocafella Records. Fourth of November.

Biggs. Co-founder of Rocafella Records. Fourth of November.

I had an overall great week. I still can't believe it was in a matter of a few days, I thought it was over weeks but if you take a look it's almost like an artist's first album. Before they hit the studio to record that classic album (let's say Reasonable Doubt *pun intented*) everything they went through prior to spitting a hot 16 made that happen. That also goes to the whole overnight success. We don't see everything you know.

Emory Jones. Rocnation.

Emory Jones. Rocnation.

So I guess what I'm saying is don't count yourself out EVER. Even when it looks like you're the underdog (I've been feeling that way since 4th grade) you're Top Dawg (pun intended). After speaking with my friend Melissa I was again inspired. She sent me a link to a great sermon and the main thing I got out of it was....

The only difference between a superstar and an ordinary person is how they think of themselves.

So simple, so clear so eureka! Self confidence is a mother and with the addition of courage you can really go places.

What helped me to have the nerve this week was realizing I'm not asking for anything but I want to give and I have a lot I can bring to the table as well. Know that.

LIFE | How Traveling Somewhere You've Never Been Can Build Your Confidence

and will help you make a better connection to the people you talk to on a daily basis. No really. I travel because I love embrace change and love the new, but I also love talking to people. My dream is to have a conversation with everyone on the planet because honestly everyone you meet knows something you don't.

My way of having a conversation with everyone is designing something that will spark conversation amongst the masses. Whether it be a piece of furniture, a great read or music some kind of talking is done. I've learned by traveling in the past few years that my conversations have gotten better. I am able to cut the small talk and break the ice with real questions that show interest and the wanting to know more. I did this when I lived in London for my study abroad and then that one way ticket to Phoenix, Arizona for Asia's graduation that turned into getting my first apartment on my own.

So I recommend everyone, even if it's a quick trip to a different city in your state; travel and speak to people...

LIFE

LIFE | I Met God Yesterday...

I MET GOD YESTERDAY in the form of a Grandpa; yearning to share his wisdom, but also take on the role of a student. He showed me that opportunity is always around us and "it's up to you to take advantage of it," he said.

I MET GOD YESTERDAY in the form of good eye contact and willingness to listen and let the conversation flow. It showed me that I'm where I'm supposed to be without a doubt.

I MET GOD YESTERDAY in the form of a song. I'm always thinking of my MAMA. I find myself randomly giggling or crying because I miss her juicy hugs. I decided to skip right to Rick Ross' Smile Mama, Smile for obvious reasons (I usually play an album all the way through before skimming to my favorites). As soon as the beat dropped and Ceelo started singing, I felt joy, sadness and warmth all at the same time. But it felt like Ceelo was singing for my heart and my MAMA. It is beautiful.

I MET GOD YESTERDAY in the form of a vivid memory of a picture. My MAMA was so excited for me because she saw a copy of The Source Magazine (my dream since 4th grade to write for/my article was printed). She took a picture of herself (FACIE) holding the copy smiling and texted, "Look what I got." That is forever imprinted in my mind.

I MET GOD YESTERDAY in the form of a feeling. I went to bed feeling confident, warm (yes the heat is on) and safe.

This is not to say I won't ever be sad again or have my moments. It's just nice to feel connected with something bigger than yourself. It felt so good that I woke up thinking I was dreaming.

Thank you God for my MAMA GRANDPA AUNT ALBERTA...you all have forever changed my life.

LIFE | Is Life Like A Dipset Interlude or A Y.G. Skit?

As of lately, I've come to the conclusion that with things that may seem "sad" a lot of great things have been happening. But I'm thinking that's life, as the great Uncle Snoop said, "There will be ups and downs, smiles and frowns." Very true! From working with a visionary of a client that has become one of my best friends in the whole wide world, finding out I have Hail Mary on vinyl (because I was going to buy), not having to buy a refrigerator, getting into my house(drama) to curating a very dope event. It has been poppin.

But the random storm clouds over me (seems like) will have me in a rah moment. I guess what I'm trying to say (since I'm out of it/kind of) is that life is a bunch of moments. But I tell you when there good. They're good. I wanted to write in the LIFE section because I haven't touched this since my Mama passed. The last post was on Bonnaroo, which marked a new chapter in my life and then a little after that. Now I'm at the next part. Let's see what happens.

P.S. Getting a good amount of rest will be apart of my daily unroutine, I just have this I don't want to miss anything attitude.

LIFE

LIFE | A 20 Second Read On What Made Bonnaroo Pop

So I can only write a little bit on the subject because, it's going to print  and my disposable cameras will be better but here's the breakdown.

  • Dancing until 5AM
  • Learning more about childhood friends than you can ever imagine
  • Spinning in circles and not getting dizzy.
  • Not knowing you're probably dehydrated.
  • Not trying to be cute, trying to survive the heat.
  • Infectious smiles.
  • Getting to know your crew.
  • Crying moments.
  • Laughing until your stomach hurts moments.
  • Being funky.
  • No judgement zone.
  • Car not being able to start.
  • Face timing the sh*t out of someone you adore because you wish they could have the experience too.
  • Disposable cameras on Fleek.
  • Sharing|Caring
  • Love
  • MillyRocking on every block.
  • FOOD everywhere.
  • Eating the same thing twice.
  • Meeting strangers that become friends.
  • Dancing like everyone/nobody is watching.
  • That community feel you may feel you've been missing.
  • Planning the next year while you're still there.

LIFE | When Defeat Looks Like T-Rex But Becomes One of The Biggest Lessons You'll Ever Learn

That would be the only explanation I can come up with at the moment. I'm so with the being more mindful and living in the moment. But it's not something about being about, it's actually practicing it. Not picking and choosing which moment but not doing so has caused me to miss "my chance" (in my head) and start over-analyzing my past decisions, more than once.

Quick scenario: You meet a bomb @$$ dude really quick and you become so caught up in what you want and distracted by your surroundings you miss what's in front of you. Yeah, not the first time but the SECOND TIME. Isn't there a quote about mistakes and the first time so when it's the second time it's your fault. Totally how I feel about the situation. So then you get to the point where you're trying to fix it. You make calls and you seem to try, maybe trying too hard (question mark face).

Being Me. Bubbly. No Worries.

Being Me. Bubbly. No Worries.

But then you ask your friends...I repeat, You Ask Your Friends. Incoming on all the opinions that you asked for. It becomes a what should I do to, what exactly was I doing anyway. What you were going to do becomes a Lindsay, Lessie, Jaielle, Asia, Empress, Bzy, Neveah, Ashley, Sherm, MT, Sandy, Tavis said this and then you get a little confused. The once confident, bubbly, conversationalist becomes equipped with the fear of rejection and feels DEFEATED.

Oh and you can't forget you try to find everything wrong with him, so you're no longer attracted to the dude and you feel released from the situation. But then you get another turning point and it's a, "No, you're even more attractive, so I should try." But you don't want to because remember what your friends said.

I didn't choose the life, the life chose me. (sistacousin tattoo #2)

I didn't choose the life, the life chose me. (sistacousin tattoo #2)

Just then when you feel like you're getting to the lowest point of CrushVille, you get this sudden awareness of something bigger than getting the digits or starting this new found friendship, you get this...MINDFULNESS. You slip a little bit, but you do feel better moment by moment when talking to the right people, reading but most when you write it out.

I'm not sure what will happen, but I know I won't forget him. I'm also very sure I'll be writing about this again, in more of a humorous way.

As I finish this now all I can think of is the talking part on Alicia Key's U Don't Know My Name.

LIFE | Travel Diary: From Coachella To Joshua Tree To The Arts District

I must say this birthday was the best. Last year, I did almost the same exact thing I did last year, but I was blessed to have my cousin Empress join me. From the beginning it was a sketchy situation, we had our tickets since last year but wasn't sure where we would be staying, if we were camping etc.

LIFE | Top Five Songs w/Bounce That You Should Download

As we pack our favorite accessories, swimsuits, and head to the West Coast we have to make sure we have the right soundtrack that serves as a pre-game and ultimate soundtrack for our road trip and time there. Check out

Day Ones x Rochelle Jordan

There's nothing like having a bounce to a song, but an unexpected bounce is a huge treat. RoJo (Rochelle Jordan) does it with an angelic voice that seems effortless. Instead of doing a comparison of the light, kind-hearted voices of our great Baby Girl Aaliyah, meaningful words and soulfulness of Amerie; I must mention how relatable the tracks on 1021 are. But Day Ones describes for your real friends, not the phony ones. Definitely a song to be blasted on a summer day on the way to a cookout where you'll see everyone, or in my case COACHELLA!

Gotta Do x Wave Chapelle

If you could put ambition on a beat with instrumental this would be it. Knowing Wave for consistency I wasn't surprised Gotta Do was going to be poppin'. Something is fun an artist on CMG that doesn't have quite the normal "street cred" but street cred for being himself.

I Know x Kiya Lacey featuring PETTY

Getting to hear this before it was put out for the masses to stream and vibe to it, probably has a lot to do with why I like it so much. It could be that it's very relatable and also has a great voice with writing to boot. Not as bouncy as the others, but Nashville native Kiya Lacey seems to know (pun intended)  what she wants in the matters of love even though it may not be right at the time. Press play for your pleasure.

New New x Ryan Leslie

Every time I listen to something new from Ryan Leslie, it always makes me think of a nice sunny day, no matter if it's freezing cold and snowing. That's how you know music is good. This time New New gives a bounce and a bit of bragging points. Cool, keen and summer ready it's an automatic keeper for the spring time.

Dozen x Jay Dot Rain

When a Wu-Tang sample is used, you automatically get attention but when it's used properly it has the possibility of being the Summer anthem with the right push. First thoughts listening to Dozen is where is this going and please don't mess it up, second thoughts, "This GOES!" It also reminds me of 50 Deep, you remember the FUBU song with the counting, yes that one, but modernize. Bass loaded and bounce ready for your whip.

Stay Tuned Next Week. Remember Festival Season Is Upon Us.

LIFE | First Stop SweetChick in Brooklyn

I haven't been to New York in six months and although it's been a huge change in life (miss you Grandpa) I always find joy in spending time with family and friends. Lindsay came and scooped me from the airport and boom...Sweet Chick time.

image.jpg

One of the best moments was running into owner, John Seymour. Since being one of the best customers of Sweet Chick (smile) I had the honor of meeting his family when I came to eat before (so precious). Not only is there a Sweet Chick in Brooklyn, but now you can head over to LES on Ludlow and hit up the new spot! Make sure you visit and tell him I sent you!

Also, Premium Pete, if you're reading this, I'm packing and hope to have lunch before I go at Sweet Chick!
