Not Another Feature on Self-Care But How it Actually Works

If there’s an overall theme in the past few weeks for me it has to be REST. It’s every where especially because it’s Mental Health Month. But I will say, it’s an overall theme in my life. Self-care proves itself to be lead because it’s something that I have made sure to take advantage of. I must admit I didn’t always put my self-care first. I put the care of my loved ones before me. It wasn’t until after they passed away that I knew how important taking care of oneself was/is.

Every since I woke and smelled the coffee, I never hesitated to take a quick flight to Tulum to see the pyramids of Chichen Itza, go to Las Vegas to bungee jump, a weekend trip to New Orleans to eat shrimp etoufee or ride to Atlanta three o’clock in the morning for a spa day.

However, during the pandemic (because we’re still in one) traveling slowed down a bit and a deep depression stepped in. I guess staying in a dealing with every emotion one could have was very heavy. But CANDLES. Out of everything (besides therapy and long talks with God) purchasing candles weekly became my vacation at home. The scents would take me so many places. Even places I have never been.

Then I thought, shoot I want to make candles. So that’s just what I did. If you thought it was easy, guess again. It may be the most money I’ve spent on a passion/hobby/”thing”. Going through various scents, testing wicks, making sure jars were on point is costly. But I finally got it.

This is just part one of my story but I thought I would share because I love writing and it’s time to get back to it.

Above is a little self-care that I do for myself…DAILY (not just Sunday).
