RECAP: Meeting of The Minds at Documentary | Book Club

A special thanks to Barista Parlor, for a cool space to enjoy conversation and espresso for the first meeting of the Documentary|Book Club! Our first selection was The Happy Movie. This documentary showed us various studies of happiness. From people dying from working so much in Japan to a country in Asia with the most 107 year olds. We saw a complete difference. We discussed what makes us happy, the definition of success and how important self-awareness is.

Of course we got on the subject of social media and I brought up how I had been taking a sabbatical from it. It's been a week and I can say I feel better. Better in a way that I'm not holding my phone in my hand for dear life and missing what is going on in front of me. Social media is a great way to meet new people, if it weren't for social media I wouldn't have had the Documentary|Book Club. But I realized during the time I wasn't on social media, I began reading more again and then realized some of the words I wasn't familiar with. That kind of stung me. I got back on the other day to thank the great people of Nashville who I mentioned in my last feature for The Source Magazine. But now it's break time again and hopefully I meet all the great people I mentioned in person vs a Tweet.

I'm already looking forward to the next meeting. We have already chosen our next documentary (notice it's not a book yet, shout out to Reci, Latavia, Kristain and Nikki).
