Back in March of this year, Louis Vuitton announced that Virgil Abloh will be the creative director. This is unprecedented, as Virgil will be the first designer of color to take the aforementioned position within the well-known luxury company.
For those that do not know who Virgil Abloh is, he is from Chicago and is of Ghanaian descent. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in ‘02 and the Illinois Institute of Technology in ‘06, he took an internship at Fendi in 2009, where he then met Kanye West. From there, his fashion career has taken off with accomplishments ranging from designing the cover for Jay-Z & West’s album, Watch the Throne, to recently being named in Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2018.
Creating a series called Studio Visit on Louis Vuitton’s Instagram page, Virgil has given people a sneak peek into what his first collection will be, in addition to his first sneaker he will design for the company which is reminiscent of the Jordan 3.
